James Maslow released one of those announcements that makes you reach for a bottle of champagne to celebrate the birth of a new love. The former Big Time Rush star shocked the internet by announcing his engagement with Caitlin Shey Spears on Instagram. The post was short and sweet: ‘Forever sounds good with you ❤️💍🥂.’ Opposite literally, millions of hearts exploded all over the internet.

The comment thread was turned upside down as friends, fans, and nostalgic BTR stans poured in their congrats. @_itssbevy shouted, ‘OMGGGGGGG!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! BRB while I go cry🥹,’ and honestly? Same. @connorericksen shared the vibe: ‘Congratulations 🥹 it’s about time!!!!’ Yeah, we have been waiting for this.
@epeters_77 was a bit of a buzzkill, stating ‘It’s giving James Diamond 💍 💎,’ because, really, the man does have some shine. And then almost immediately after came @maryfdelpuerto bringing us right back to nostalgia: ‘Mi adolescente interior está triste, pero yo adulta me siento feliz y nostálgica a la vez ❤️🥳🥹’ (Translation: My teenage self is sad, but my adult self feels happy and nostalgic at the same time). That’s the thing about Maslow: he has been one for a lot of childhoods, and to just see him start this next chapter is kind of emotional whiplash for many.
Of course, not every comment was pure excitement. @vale_huenchu gave us a bittersweet one: ‘Triste por mi, feliz por ti’ (‘Sad for me, happy for you’), which-is-now-the-mood. @therealdanielaisaza then dropped her wild theory of being Maslow’s ex. Girl, read the room.
But the chant was loud and clear: love. From @mynameisnada’s simple Congrats James and Caitlin to @dianasalvator07’s ‘I hope you have good life with her in the future,’ it’s obvious the engagement hit a sore spot.
Maslow, who shot to fame in Big Time Rush, has been dating Spears for several years. It has always been a shyly cute relationship. Now that they put a ring on it, the bigger question is: when is the wedding coming? And really, will the rest of BTR be attending? (Logan Henderson, we are watching you).

Now, it’s party time for the couple. And judging by the number of reactions, everyone in the world wants to drink to their forever. Or rather, to the collective meltdown over forever from the internet.
