Donald Trump posted a lengthy statement on social media Wednesday claiming that a military operation called “Operation Midnight Hammer” successfully destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities last year.
In the post shared by journalist Aaron Rupar, Trump wrote that the operation “totally obliterated the Nuclear Dust locations to the point where bloodthirsty Iran has been unable to get to it, or dig it out.” He claims the operation targeted three specific sites in June 2025.
Trump went on to assert that “Space Force has cameras on every inch of the 3 sites that were so brilliantly hit last June.” The former president appeared to be defending the alleged operation against potential criticism from political opponents and news outlets.
The statement included sharp attacks on Democratic congressional leaders. Trump referred to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as a “Low IQ person” and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer.” He warned against allowing these “Traitor Democrats” to “demean or criticize” the purported military action.
Trump also targeted several major news organizations in his post. He called the Wall Street Journal “phony and decaying,” described the New York Times as “Failing” with subscriptions “way down,” and referred to the CBS news program 60 Minutes as “dying.” He lumped these outlets together as “totally corrupt Fake News Media.”
The post follows Trump’s typical social media style of mixing policy claims with personal attacks on political rivals and media coverage. His reference to Iran as “bloodthirsty” fits his longstanding hawkish rhetoric toward the country.
No major news outlets have independently verified the existence of “Operation Midnight Hammer” or any recent military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The Biden administration has not publicly acknowledged such an operation, and there have been no reports of significant military action against Iranian nuclear sites in the timeframe Trump mentioned.
Trump’s claim about Space Force surveillance capabilities reflects his continued emphasis on the military branch he established during his presidency. Space Force, officially created in 2019, focuses on military operations in space and has expanded its monitoring capabilities in recent years.
The timing of Trump’s statement is notable as tensions with Iran remain a key foreign policy issue. The former president has consistently taken a hardline stance toward Iran, withdrawing from the nuclear deal during his presidency and implementing strict sanctions.
Trump’s attacks on Democratic leaders come as both Jeffries and Schumer continue to hold prominent positions in Congress. Jeffries leads House Democrats while Schumer serves as Senate Majority Leader, making them frequent targets of Trump’s criticism.
The media outlets Trump criticized have all reported extensively on his legal challenges and political activities. His characterization of their business performance doesn’t align with publicly available circulation and viewership data for these established news organizations.
Trump signed off the post with “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT,” continuing to use the presidential title despite leaving office in January 2021.
The post generated significant engagement on social media, with hundreds of likes and retweets from Trump supporters and critics alike. Many users questioned the veracity of the military operation claims, while others praised what they viewed as strong action against Iran.
Neither the Pentagon nor the White House has responded to requests for comment about Trump’s claims regarding Operation Midnight Hammer or the alleged surveillance of Iranian sites.
