Comedy icon Eddie Murphy is coming to town, bringing his trademark comedic chops to his first holiday film! Titled Candy Cane Lane, Murphy will lead the festive project, which it has now been revealed will land on Prime Video in time for the holiday season, and finds the Beverly Hills Cop star tangling with elves, magic, and possibly ruining Christmas for his family and the world. In the movie that is, the announcement of an Eddie Murphy Christmas movie is of course a real-life miracle.

The official outline of Candy Cane Lane reads as follows:

“Eddie Murphy stars in this holiday comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) to better his chances of winning, she casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life, and wreaks havoc on the whole town. At the risk of ruining the holidays for his family, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children must race against the clock to break Pepper’s spell, battle deviously magical characters, and save Christmas for everyone.”

Eddie Murphy leads an all-star ensemble cast that includes Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, D.C. Young Fly, Riki Lindhome, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Lombardo Boyar, Danielle Pinnock, and Timothy Simons.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the screenplay comes from Kelly Younger, inspired by his own childhood holiday experiences on Candy Cane Lane in El Segundo, CA. The film reunites director Reginald Hudlin, Murphy, and producer Brian Grazer for the first time since their 1992 hit, Boomerang.

Candy Cane Lane Will Hit Audiences ‘Right in the Feels’

Audiences will experience the holiday magic come to life in Candy Cane Lane, with the help of some magical characters and unexpected mayhem in. Director Reginald Hudlin has teased what to expect saying, “I can’t wait for the world to see Candy Cane Lane. I’ve wanted to make a Christmas movie my whole life, but I wanted to do something fresh and surprising. Eddie Murphy and this hilarious cast really bring the funny, it’s super Christmas-y, and it will hit you right in the feels.”

Candy Cane Lane Premieres Exclusively on Prime Video Globally on December 1, 2023.

This festive outing is just one of the highly anticipated projects on the horizon for Eddie Murphy, who is also due to reprise one of his most iconic roles in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Returning to Beverly Hills after the death of an old friend to investigate corruption within the force of the Beverly Hills Police Department with his daughter and her ex-boyfriend, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley sees several original cast members return, including Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and John Ashton. New cast members include Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon

While Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley has not yet been given a release date, it is due to land on Netflix in the near future, meaning Murphy could be giving audiences two Christmas presents this year.
