James Gunn Denies That He ‘Booted’ Gal Gadot from Wonder Woman Role

The future of Gal Gadot in the DCU remains unclear with James Gunn commenting on recent Wonder Woman casting rumors. While there have been nonstop rumors flowing since Gunn and Peter Safran boarded DC Studios to sheer the ship creatively, not very much is yet known for sure. What’s been confirmed is that Henry Cavill won’t be back as Superman in the DCU, despite his recent return to the role for Black Adam. That’s been followed by rumors that Gadot and Cavill were both simultaneously fired from playing these roles with Gunn and Safran envisioning an all-new Justice League.

In any case, Gunn is denying that he has “booted” Gadot from the franchise. Per ComicBook.com, Gunn was addressed by a fan on Twitter who claimed to be looking forward to what the DCU will bring, but at the same time, he feels disappointed over Cavill and Gadot getting the “boot.” Gunn directly responded to the comment by denying the notion that Gadot was “booted” from playing Wonder Woman.

“Cannot wait to see what you’re cooking up,” the fan wrote. “That being said the move to boot Cavill and Gadot (especially after they’d announced their return) doesn’t inspire confidence.”

“I’m not sure where you’re getting that we ‘booted’ Gal,” Gunn shot back.

Wonder Woman 3 Isn’t Happening with Patty Jenkins

There are a couple of different ways Gunn’s comment can be interpreted. By suggesting that Gadot wasn’t “booted” while not mentioning Cavill, that could mean that there’s still more to come from Gadot as Wonder Woman in the DCU. However, it could also mean that Gadot had chosen to walk away from the role rather than having Gunn tell her she’s been booted from it. That’s a possibility given how close Gadot and Patty Jenkins are, and it has been confirmed that the planned Wonder Woman 3 with Jenkins and Gadot is no longer happening.

As for Jenkins, she says that it wasn’t her decision for Wonder Woman 3 to be nixed. After it was reported that Wonder Woman 3 had been scrapped under DC Studios’ new leadership, Jenkins posted a statement online noting she would have done “anything asked” of her, but that there was simply nothing she could do, making it seem like, at least in her case, she was given the “boot” that Gunn says Gadot didn’t get.

“I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me,” Jenkins said in the statement. “It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”
