Maxïmo Park announce ‘A Certain Trigger’ 20th anniversary UK tour with Art Brut

Maxïmo Park have announced a UK tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’. Find out more below, along with details of a new reissue of the album.

The Newcastle indie band’s 2005 debut contained hit singles ‘Apply Some Pressure’, ‘Graffiti’, and ‘Going Missing’, and earned them a Mercury Prize nomination as well as a spot headlining the NME Tour.

Now, two decades on, the band are celebrating the milestone anniversary by heading out on a UK tour, playing songs from the breakthrough LP along with a selection of greatest hits.

The dates kick off with an opening night at the O2 Academy in Glasgow on February 6, and continue with dates in Manchester, Liverpool, and Bournemouth on February 7, 8 and 10 respectively.

Other stops include shows in Bristol and Birmingham, followed by a gig at London’s O2 Academy Brixton – the same venue they played around the album’s release.

The tour concludes with shows in Oxford, Nottingham, Leeds, and more throughout the remainder of the month, and support for all shows comes from Art Brut. Tickets go on sale from August 29 at 10am and pre-sale options will be available from August 27. Visit here for tickets, and find a list of new dates below.

As well as the new tour dates, Maxïmo Park will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the debut album with a new 2025 reissue.

Set for release on October 31, it’ll arrive on a single LP, double gatefold LP, and 3xLP collection variations, and include ‘Missing Songs’ from the era called ‘A19’, ‘Isolation’, and ‘My Life in Reverse’.

A collection of rarities and B-sides will also be included, which features a song called ‘Wasteland’, a ‘First Avenue demo’ of ‘Limassol’, a ‘Dilston Road demo’ of ‘The Coast Is Always Changing’, and a BBC Radio 2 Janice Long session performance of ‘Kiss You Better’.

“Not many bands make it to a 20th year together so we’re having a big celebration, with a special 20th anniversary tour and by giving a fresh perspective to ‘A Certain Trigger’,” said frontman Paul Smith.

“Our first album remains dear to so many people, and compiling archive material for the reissue has been like entering a time machine – thrilling, but also a bit scary! Happily, we think the music has more than stood the test of time, and the tour, where we’ll revisit many of the beloved older songs, will be a joyful experience for both us and our audience,” he added.

“Playing live has always been at the heart of what we do, and we still feel the same exhilaration stepping onto the stage as we did in the beginning, but now with even more appreciation of the moment, and the roar of the crowds.”

Visit here to pre-order the ‘A Certain Trigger’ reissue.

The celebrations around ‘A Certain Trigger’ come on the heels of the band sharing their eighth studio album ‘Stream Of Life’ last September – a record they described as “an exuberant New Wave-y alt-pop-rocker about faith, solidarity and sustaining relationships in the face of society’s structural hurdles.”

Produced by Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective) and Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Sports Team), that came as the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Nature Always Wins’.
