Hurts has shoulder sprain, uncertain for Week 16 vs. Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a shoulder sprain in Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears and is uncertain to play in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Tuesday.

“He sprained his shoulder. … He is attacking his rehab. We’ll see what happens this week,” Sirianni told the “WIP Morning Show,” according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP. The coach added, “(It’s) not something we deem long term.”

It’s a sprain to his right throwing shoulder, reports NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark.

Hurts was injured late in the third quarter when Bears defensive end Trevis Gipson landed on him while making a tackle. The passer was slow to get up but remained in the game.

The 24-year-old is an MVP candidate and enjoying a terrific season. He’s led Philadelphia to a 13-1 record, totaling 4,219 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Eagles backup quarterback Gardner Minshew would be slated to start against Dallas if Hurts can’t go. Minshew started two games for Philadelphia last season. He led the Eagles to a win over the New York Jets in Week 13 and started against the Cowboys in the season finale.
