Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 Brings Baez Back With Sad and Confusing News For Danny

Please tell me that Danny and Baez aren’t over.

After rooting for them to get together for most of the second half of Blue Bloods, I was thrilled that Boston Blue kept them intact.

But Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 ended on a weird note that left me confused about what their relationship status actually is after the two worked together on one of the season’s most intense cases.

Baez’s Unhappiness About Their Long-Distance Relationship Was Understandable

The case on Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 wasn’t nearly as important as the mystery of whether Baez would ever have an honest conversation with Danny.

It was obvious something was on her mind, but she spent half the episode avoiding personal conversations with Danny before finally confiding in Lena that she wasn’t happy with being so far away from her boyfriend.

That began the most annoying stretch of what was otherwise a solid episode of the procedural: Baez constantly getting interrupted before she could tell Danny how she felt.

Interruptions are a common way to raise tension and put off important conversations, but they kept happening. If I’d taken a drink for every half-finished conversation, I’d have passed out long before the end of the hour.

I guess that was meant to suggest that Danny’s life at the Boston PD was so busy that he didn’t have time for anything real with Baez, but it was more irritating than anything.

When the two finally did talk, it was as confusing as it was emotional.

I could understand Sarah’s engagement provoking tears in Baez, though it seemed more about wanting to be married to Danny than anything else.

The grief about her mother’s Alzheimer’s disease came out of nowhere, though. Baez hadn’t mentioned that when she spoke to Lena, only that she hated being far away from Danny.

Additionally, I couldn’t tell if Baez and Danny were breaking up or what.

(John Medland/CBS )

Baez rejected the idea of Danny moving back to New York, which would be a non-starter for Boston Blue Season 1 continuing.

She also can’t move to Boston because of her mother’s illness.

So it’s logical to assume this is the end, but it wasn’t entirely clear that’s what she wanted to do, and her explanation that she wanted to say goodbye to Danny while they could still remember the good times didn’t make sense.

Throwing her fears about her mother’s illness and about memory loss in general muddied the waters unnecessarily. Additionally, no matter how busy Danny was, I doubted that Baez would have kept such major news from him until she had no choice.

The issue is how they’re going to manage that long-distance relationship, and that’s where it should have stayed.

(John Medland/CBS )

It’s unlikely that this is the end of the road for these two, or at least I hope it isn’t. I’ve waited too long for Danny and Baez to be a thing for it to end unceremoniously and forever after one confusing conversation.

Meanwhile, The Case On Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 Made Me Wish Blue Bloods Was Still On

Baez was supposedly there to track a serial killer who had started in New York and had been traced back to Boston. However, the opening scenes made me feel like I’d missed the beginning of the story.

Did this crossover story that took place entirely in Boston work for you?

If only Blue Bloods were still on the air, this case could have actually begun in New York and then moved over to Boston, which would have been more satisfying.

That’s a pipe dream at this point, but I would have settled for a few scenes on a set meant to look like New York City if it meant more coherence and cameos for other Blue Bloods characters.

(John Medland/CBS)

I accepted a long time ago that Blue Bloods is over, but it felt weird to start this story in the Boston PD squad room as if we were supposed to know what was going on.

The case itself was intense once we got past the beginning, but it was one of those violent stories that culminated in a lot of shooting, and those are my least favorite types of stories.

I’d have preferred a hostage negotiation scenario to a shootout, although it was logical that people this violent would go for emptying their guns in the cops’ direction in an attempt to force them to back off.

I also thought the way Danny told the father to do “whatever the hell they [the kidnappers] want” instead of explaining the plan properly was weird.

Jonah and Sean Finally Got A Real Story, But Mae’s Dilemma Outshone It

(John Medland/CBS)

I appreciated the opening scene where Nadine had to be stopped from continuing to shoot at her father.

Jonah’s decision to try to connect with her reminded me of how Jamie used to interact with suspects and witnesses who were struggling with mental health issues, though I did wonder why Sean hadn’t learned that from his uncle rather than being too quick to rely on his gun.

Afterward, the story got weird, though I knew the father was lying as soon as he said Nadine was a sociopath because disorganized speech and emotional dysregulation don’t usually have anything to do with sociopathy. Besides, he said she was psychotic when the police arrived.

TV has this tendency to make incoherent speech and hallucinations a symbolic way of expressing deeper truths that I’m not sure is entirely accurate, but at least the cops took Nadine’s claims seriously and investigated what her father had been doing.

Meanwhile, Mae had the most powerful storyline, though I wish Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 15 had delved more deeply into the fallout from her defying the mayor, rather than using that as a jumping-off point for her conflict with Seth.

(John Medland/CBS)

There may be more to come from this later, though, since the DA’s race is supposed to heat up before the end of the season.

I also enjoyed Edwin’s 80th birthday party, although my personal opinion is that if someone says they only want a small, quiet celebration, that should be respected, and Seth stole the thunder somewhat by proposing to Sarah.

Enough of my opinions. What did you think?
