First Look at ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Script Seemingly Confirms Superman Villain

James Gunn hasn’t wasted any time getting to work on the next installment of the Superman Saga, following the massive success of the first DCU Superman movie. The film, which received mostly positive reviews online and brought in over $615 million worldwide, served as an impressive theatrical launchpad for the new franchise, which had already released its first project in 2024 with HBO Max’s Creature Commandos. Now with Peacemaker Season 2 nearing its conclusion, Gunn has already finished his latest DC Studios script for Man of Tomorrow.

The co-chairman of DC Studios took to social media to drop a fun tease for the next Superman-centric film, which was first announced at the beginning of September with fun new art that depicted Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor and David Corenswet’s hero teaming up. Before the official announcement of Man of Tomorrow, Gunn had hinted that while the film would feature Superman in a large capacity, it wouldn’t strictly be just about Clark, or a straight-up sequel to the 2025 film. Gunn’s Instagram post is a picture of the title page of the script, which reveals that this is the second draft that has been completed for Man of Tomorrow.

What’s more interesting is that there is an image on the title page, which features the anatomy of the human brain. It’s hard not to read into the choice of putting a brain to tease Man of Tomorrow, especially since Lex Luthor and Superman’s team-up has fans wondering what villain could possibly require the two enemies to join forces. Now, with this new social media post, fans are speculating that it could be the alien Brainiac who serves as the overarching antagonist for Man of Tomorrow. The social media post can be viewed below:

Brainiac is a Superman villain that fans have wanted to see in live-action for quite some time, with the character coming close to making his big-screen live-action debut in several canceled projects. He was meant to be the villain in Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie’s Man of Steel sequel pitch, as well as J.J. Abrams’ canceled Superman Flyby movie. James Gunn and the team at DC Studios have an opportunity to finally give the space-faring villain his due, pitting him against both Lex Luthor and Superman. Still, it’s all speculation at this point, but the brain on the script page is enough to get fans excited and speculating about what is in store in the upcoming film.

Previously, Gunn had hinted that production on Man of Tomorrow was set to begin sooner than many expected, with comments on social media from actors like Isabel Merced stating that they’ll be seeing everyone “soon.” This was eventually confirmed by the director in a separate interview, stating that production was eyeing an April 2026 start date. With a second draft complete and a mysterious image adorning the cover page, there’s plenty to get excited about for Man of Tomorrow, and Gunn’s commitment to getting the next story in the Superman Saga out as soon as possible.
