Summary

  • The cast of Glee reunites on the picket line to support the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and show solidarity with their union.
  • Glee achieved enormous success and impacted the careers of its stars, but not all cast members were able to sustain that popularity post-show.
  • Actor Darren Criss emphasizes the importance of the strike, stating that they are working creative people who need protection, not just famous movie stars.

The cast of Glee reunites on the SAG-AFTRA picket line, more than 14 years after the premiere of the show and almost 9 years after it ended. Glee has become one of the most popular TV shows in history, especially among young audiences. Created by Ryan Murphy, the series followed a group of students from William McKinley High School from Lima, Ohio, who were part of the school choir team. The show followed the story of every member of the group, tackling important themes like bullying, sexuality and race, but the most emblematic thing was the songs featured in every episode.

During the rehearsals and the presentations from the Glee club, the actors performed iconic songs from across the music industry, covering artists like The Beatles, Lady Gaga, and some popular songs from famous musical plays.

The series had an enormous success and impact, boosting the careers of most of its stars. However, not everyone managed to translate the popularity that Glee gained into their lives after it ended. And now, many of the cast members are showing their support for the actors union during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Jenna Ushkowitz, one of the stars from the show, shared a series of pictures on her Instagram page, celebrating a reunion with some of her cast-mates on the picket line:

“A day of Glee, reunions, picketing, friendship and solidarity. Glee brought so many people together and once again we are standing together in solidarity with our union.”

The reunion featured Glee cast members Kevin McHale, Darren Criss, Heather Morris, Samuel Larsen, Dot-Marie Jones, Max Adler, Becca Tobin, Jacob Artist, Vanessa Lengies, Iqbal Theba, Michael Hitchcock, and Josh Sussman.

Speaking with journalist Christina Cavaleri while on the picket line (via Them), actor Darren Criss shared his thoughts on the current situation in the industry, explaining why the strike is so important and who are the people they’re all fighting for saying, “We’re not all movie stars with huge lifestyles. We’re working creative people that need protection.”

Will Glee Ever Get a Reboot?

Fox Network

Now that many television shows and movies have returned in the form of late sequels, prequels, reboots or revivals, the chances of Glee joining this group of productions are high. In fact, Ryan Murphy has already addressed this multiple times, showing some interest in bringing one of his most acclaimed and popular creations back to the screen.

Last year, in an interview with IndieWire, the producer spoke about how important the legacy of the show is and that he would love to revisit it:

“Like, it’s sort of like an interesting legacy that I’m interested in doing in a positive way after sort of pausing for a while. But I don’t know. I just love what it says and what it did. And there will never be in my life another Glee, anything close to it, in terms of me feeling so close to it.”

Murphy is not the only one that has shown excitement about the idea of Glee making a comeback. Grant Gustin, who had a small role on the show, also said he would definitely be up for a revival.
