Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is a well-renowned fan of miniature wargaming, specifically Warhammer 40,000. The actor is now all set to lead a live-action adaptation of the hugely popular series, with Cavill now describing such a role as a “dream come true.” However, while fans are no doubt excited (and nervous) to see what Cavill and Amazon MGM Studios come up with when bringing Warhammer to the small screen, the former Superman has offered an update that could add to that anticipation (and trepidation)…

Christopher McQuarrie teased that his rejected ‘Superman’ pitch would have been something special.
While speaking with Esquire recently, Cavill revealed that work on the Warhammer 40,000 series is still underway but suggested that he and the studio may be struggling a little to tackle the “tricky IP” and the challenge of bringing it into live-action.
“But it’s different from what I’ve done before, in the sense I haven’t had my hand on the tiller of things before. It’s wonderful doing that. It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that’s what I love about it. The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I’m enjoying enormously.”
‘Warhammer’ Could Be a Major Franchise for Henry Cavill… If He Doesn’t Take Too Long
Games Workshop
Produced by Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where human civilization is under siege by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. Henry Cavill’s nerd credentials are now widely known, with many fans of the Warhammer world elated that someone with a passion for the game will be bringing it to life.
While Cavill may use words like “tricky” and “complex” to describe turning the IP into a series, it’s likely the actor is merely taking his time to get it right. However, where some concern might be found is around the idea that this level of dedication could mean we won’t see the Warhammer 40,000 series for some time. Or, that it will take so long to put it all together that Amazon will abandon it in favor of something else. The somewhat cynical world of streaming is pretty cutthroat, after all. The last we heard about Cavill and Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 series was back in December 2024, with the actor hinting that the project is just the first step in a planned franchise.
“My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!”
Warhammer 40,000 is just one of several major projects in the pipeline for Henry Cavill. The actor will reunite with Amazon for the live-action adaptation of the beloved 80s cartoon, Voltron, which has now wrapped. He will also take the lead, once again under the Amazon umbrella, in John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s long-awaited Highlander reboot.
