Santa Clauses Season 2 Sets Early Release Date on Disney+ for Tim Allen’s Return as Scott Calvin

Summary

  • Eric Stonestreet is revealed as the villainous Mad Santa in exclusive new images from Disney+.
  • The Santa Clause franchise, led by Tim Allen, began in 1994 and continued with two sequels.
  • The second season of The Santa Clauses will see Scott Calvin training his son Cal to become the next Santa Claus, with guest stars including Tracy Morgan and Laura San Giacomo.

The Santa Clauses will bring the festive spirit to Disney+ this November as the second season of the sequel series drops its double-episode debut on November 8, 2023. This is a bonus for those who enjoyed the first season of the follow-up to the Tim Allen movie The Santa Clause and its sequels, who don’t have too long to wait for the next instalment of the franchise.

Last week, new images shared by PEOPLE revealed the first look at Eric Stonestreet as the villainous “Mad Santa” in The Santa Clauses season 2.

The Tim Allen-led Santa Clause franchise first began way back in 1994. The family holiday film starred Allen as Scott Calvin a businessman whose life abruptly changes after he accidentally kills Santa Claus and unknowingly takes his place as the new Father Christmas. The first film was later followed up with 2002’s The Santa Clause 2 and 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.

Last year, Disney+ continued the holiday franchise with its first season of The Santa Clauses. The new series stars Allen reprising his role as Saint Nick and also features Elizabeth Mitchell, Kal Penn, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, Austin Kane, Rupali Redd, Devin Bright, and Matilda Lawler. Disney+’s official synopsis for the series reads:

“After being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, he’s as jolly as ever. But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, as well as being there for his family. Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.”

The new photos show off Eric Stonestreet all dressed up as Scott Calvin’s frosty foe, Magnus Antas (aka the “Mad Santa”).

The photos show the villain decked out in a dirty version of Santa’s suit which features a belt with a large M front and center. In the picture the character is also accompanied by his assistant Olga (played by Marta Kessler). A second image shows the “Mad Santa” still rocking the unusual Santa suit while standing at the North Pole.

The outlet additionally reveals what fans of the Disney+ series can expect from the upcoming season with this quick description: “In the second season, the Calvin family is back in the North Pole as Scott Calvin continues his role as Santa Claus after retirement plans were thwarted when failing to find a worthy successor in season one. Now that Scott and his family have successfully saved Christmas, Scott turns his focus towards training his son Cal (Austin Kane) to eventually take over the ‘family business’ as Santa Claus.”

In addition to Allen, the second season of The Santa Clauses will also star Elizabeth Mitchell (returning as Carol aka Mrs. Claus), Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra Calvin Claus, Devin Bright as Noel, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias as Kris “Kringle” Moreno.

Guest stars for the new season will include Tracy Morgan as the Easter Bunny, Kessler as Olga, Liam Kyle as Gary, Isabella Bennett as Edie, Sasha Knight as Crouton, Ruby Jay as Riley, Mia Lynn Bangunan as Pontoon, and Laura San Giacomo as La Befana, the Christmas Witch.
