Sex Education Season 3 Trailer Gives Otis a Mustache and Moordale a New Headteacher

The trailer for the third season of Netflix’s breakout comedy series Sex Education has been released. Set in the fictional school of Moordale Secondary, the series focuses on sex and intimacy-related problems faced by the school’s students and adults. The trailer for season 3 of the show kicks things up a few notches with the introduction of a strict new principal who does not appreciate the school’s reputation for openness regarding sex issues. The official description for the season can be read below.

It’s a new year, Otis is having casual sex, Eric and Adam are official, and Jean has a baby on the way. Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms. Prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes, and much more of Madam Groff.”

The trailer starts with Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) catching up with her best friend Aimee (Aimee-Lou Wood). We see Otis (Asa Butterfield) has been growing a sparse new mustache over the summer and is secretly hooking up with a fellow student at Moordale. Meanwhile, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) is finally in a relationship with Adam (Connor Swindells).

We also see glimpses of new characters who will be joining the show, including Jason Isaacs playing Peter, the older, more successful brother to Moordale’s former headmaster Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie), Indra Ové, Elsie’s foster mother Anna, Dua Saleh, who plays Cal, a nonbinary student, and Jemima Kirke as the new headteacher at Moordale.

With the new headmistress comes a new attitude towards sex education at Moordale, which has been dubbed “sex school” by the media. In an effort to battle the rampant promiscuity, students are put in drab new school uniforms and subjected to the histrionics of sex education videos and teachers who yell things like “Sex will ruin your life!”

Aside from glimpses of the changing school curriculum, the trailer also shows how the main characters have evolved. Otis and Maeve are actively trying to avoid each other, even though it is clear they still have feelings for each other. Adam finally seems ready to come out of the closet with Eric at his side. Meanwhile, Otis’ mother Jean is dealing with the onset of her pregnancy while trying to navigate her relationship with Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt).

Of course, the big question among fans is whether this will be the season in which Otis and Maeve finally get together or the machinations of Maeve’s neighbor Isaac (George Robinson) will continue to throw a spanner in the works. Also whether the Otis-Maeve sex clinic will make a comeback to provide succor to the students of Moordale for their sex-related issues.

Written and created by Laurie Nunn and produced by Eleven, Sex Eduction stars Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Connor Swindells, Aimee-Lou Wood, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Chaneil Kular, Simone Ashley, Mimi Keene, Tanya Reynolds, Mikael Persbrandt, Patricia Allison, Sami Outalball, Anne-Marie Duff, George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Rakhee Thakrar and Jim Howick. Sex Education Season 3 premieres September 17 on Netflix.
