The Animated Series Voice Cast Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Tara Strong have joined fans in celebrating the 30th anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series.

It’s a big day for fans of Batman: The Animated Series, as the popular cartoon show has reached its 30th anniversary. The date has been bringing a lot of attention to the show as fans celebrate the milestone occasion, and it didn’t take long for the chatter to start reaching the voice cast of the series. Mark Hamill retweeted an image celebrating the show’s 30th anniversary while adding a message expressing his gratitude for landing the role of the Joker three decades ago.

“So grateful to have been a part of this one,” Hamill said.

Hamill’s co-star Kevin Conroy, the fan favorite actor who voiced Batman himself and still continues to portray the character in other projects, also acknowledged the big day. He tweeted a CBR article labeling him as the “Definitive Batman” which is something that many fans of Batman: The Animated Series would be quick to agree with. Conroy’s tweet also included fan artwork of his face blended with the Dark Knight’s cowl.

Meanwhile, Tara Strong couldn’t help but get in on the celebration as well. Of course, Strong’s place in DC history is notable as the original voice of Harley Quinn, who was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series before going on to become one of DC’s most popular characters. Strong tweeted about the anniversary and expressed how it felt like “magic” to be part of the voice cast between Hamill and Conroy.

Batman: The Animated Series first premiered on Fox Kids in 1992. It was developed by Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm who wanted to offer something different to what was typically seen at the time from the more colorful superhero adaptations. Its dark tone has been met with widespread praise along with its voice acting and writing, and many of that show’s episodes are still considered to be among the best Batman stories ever told. The series inspired many other shows and feature films, such as the sequel series Batman Beyond which took place decades in the future after the events of the original series.

Last year, it was also announced that a new animated series was getting developed that would pay homage to the original Batman: The Animated Series. Dubbed Batman: Caped Crusader, the show comes from Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm alongside J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves. While the show was planned to be developed for HBO Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery has put its future in serious jeopardy, and it’s not yet clear at this time if the show will end up materializing.
