The Duffer Brothers Will Begin Writing Stranger Things Season 5 Next Month

Stranger Things 5 will not take as long to make as season 4, and the Duffers are almost ready to start working on the end.

Netflix

The Duffer Brothers promised that fans would not have to wait too long for season 5 of Stranger Things, and it looks like they are holding to their word after announcing they plan on writing the final season next month. When it comes to the actual plot of the fifth season, the Duffers already have things planned out, which would suggest the actual writing of the scripts shouldn’t take them too long to work out.

After bringing Stranger Things 4 to a dramatic close with two feature-length episodes, the Duffers will be looking to complete the story of the Upside-Down with one more run of new episodes. After seemingly having defeated the “big bad” of the series, there is a question of exactly where the show can go next, but it looks like the Duffers have no such concerns as they prepare for the last leg. Ross Duffer told Collider:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“We’re going to take a little vacation in July, and then we’re going to come back. I know that the writer’s room is going to start in that first week of August.”

Although this is good news, it does mean that it will probably be a couple of years at least before we see Stranger Things return to pay off on that season 4 cliffhanger ending. Depending on exactly how long the final season turns out, there could be a substantial amount of filming to be completed next year. With the special effects of this season’s finale only being completed hours before it premiered on Netflix, there are clearly going to be plenty of visuals to be worked on for what is sure to be a spectacular series finale.

Will Stranger Things Season 5 Have A Time Jump?

Netflix

One small bone of contention with the latest episodes of Stranger Things has been how much older the young cast looks despite there only being a few months between the events of the third and fourth seasons. With that in mind, it has been said there will be a time jump at the start of the final season. However, given where the latest episode ended, would a time jump work? The Duffers have previously commented that for the first three seasons of the show, they were primarily working it out as they went. This time, there was always a plan for the current season and the next one too. They said:

“We had all the scripts before we started shooting, so we could look at the whole thing as a whole. And we outlined all of five. So it really is four and five or like of a piece, and this was due to the six-month hiatus that we had due to the pandemic. So we don’t typically have as much time. It usually feels like the train is going down the tracks and Ross and I and our writers are just throwing down track as we’re going, once we’re halfway through the season. And for the first time ever, we were able to look at it globally, not just Season Four, but Season Five as well.”
