Jones tells fans not to lose sleep over Parsons ordeal

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones told reporters Saturday that he isn’t considering moving Micah Parsons after the star pass-rusher requested a trade due to a contract dispute.

“I think the world of Micah. That’s just the part of negotiation,” Jones said of the trade request, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “I don’t really place that with any seriousness.”

“I wouldn’t be standing here with you if I didn’t think we potentially had a great future with Micah (Parsons). We’re in good shape,” Jones added. “This is negotiation. But make no mistake about it, life has to go on if something happens to me or anybody else. Life does go on.”

The owner also had a message for Cowboys fans, saying they shouldn’t “lose any sleep over it.”

Parsons posted a detailed message on social media Friday, expressing his frustration with the way the organization has handled his extension negotiations. In his post, he said he no longer wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys and had officially submitted a trade request to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

The 27-year-old Parsons explained that Jerry Jones tried to privately negotiate a contract with him without his agent present. When Parsons’ agent attempted to advance the negotiations further, Jones claimed the contract was already agreed upon, which Parsons says wasn’t true. His camp hasn’t had any contract talks with the team since this occurred.

Parsons also noted in his statement that he “no longer wants shots taken at me for getting injured” after the owner mistakenly told reporters that Parsons missed six games last year when he sat out only four.

Jones, 82, also expressed his thoughts last week about how fans’ chants at camp about paying Parsons were much quieter than the “Pay (CeeDee) Lamb” chants last offseason, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Cowboys fans were heard yelling “We want Micah” at Saturday’s practice.

“It was just so much louder walking off this field (last year) with Lamb,” Jones said Saturday, doubling down on his comments from last week.

Parsons is entering the final season of his rookie contract after the club exercised its fifth-year option. The Penn State product has earned two first-team All-Pro nominations since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2021.
