Lil Yachty announced his new collaboration with Ice Spice on Friday. Buried in the caption was one detail that changed the whole story: he co-directed the music video himself.
The track is called “out of my face.” Ice Spice holds down the lead. Yachty, credited under his alias CONCRETE BOY BOAT^, pulls up on the feature. He dropped the news on Instagram personally, writing: “out of my face by ice spice w/ me out now / directed by me & @amdvisuals.”
That second line is where the real story lives. Yachty didn’t just hop on a feature and bounce. He worked alongside @amdvisuals on the visual direction. That’s a different level of involvement. That’s an artist who wants his fingerprints on the whole thing, not just the audio.
This kind of move lands differently in hip-hop right now. Stepping behind the camera has always been a flex. But Yachty didn’t announce it with fanfare or a press package. He dropped the feature credit and the director credit in the same Instagram caption and kept it moving. That’s confidence.
Yachty’s been in a creatively restless space for a while now. His 2023 album “Let’s Start Here.” was a full genre pivot into psychedelic rock. It genuinely caught people off guard. He’s been leaning into artistic unpredictability ever since. Adding a directorial credit to the board fits that energy perfectly.
The CONCRETE BOY BOAT^ alias is doing real work here too. Yachty has used it consistently to carve out an identity beyond his mainstream rap catalog. Long-time fans know this alias doesn’t get pulled out for just anything. Filing both the feature and the director credit under that name says the whole thing was intentional.
Ice Spice, for her part, keeps running her own lane. She’s been selective with features going back to her breakout. “out of my face” fits that pattern. This wasn’t a throwaway session. A full video dropping on the same day as the audio says both artists were fully invested.
The release skipped the usual machine. No advance single, no press run. Yachty posted on Instagram Friday morning and the internet moved. The announcement crossed 254,000 likes with no prior hype behind it. For a drop that came out of nowhere, that number hits different.
That’s the bet more artists are making in 2026: trust the audience and skip the buildup. Yachty made that bet here and the early returns look good.
This release is worth watching closely. The music is still the foundation, but Yachty is stacking directorial credits now. Directors have long careers. Directors get into rooms rappers don’t. Right now it’s one video. But real pivots always start somewhere.
CONCRETE BOY BOAT^ gave Yachty room to be more than a rapper. This week, he stepped into that room.
“out of my face” is out now.
