Reacher has dominated the streaming charts since its debut at the end of 2023, but Alan Ritchson’s tough guy hero has finally been beaten into submission…by a child. Despite being challenged by several new steaming releases, it took the arrival of The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon to leapfrog its way to the top of the chart after debuting its first five seasons on Netflix at the beginning of the year.

Reacher’s second season on Prime Video enjoyed a viewership almost as massive as its leading man’s shoulders, with work on the third season already underway. However, it is hard to deny that streaming platforms spark a lot of interest in older shows, and it seems that Young Sheldon has enough of a fan base to push it all the way to the top of the chart.

Young Sheldon has already been enjoying a robust presence on Max, but as well as episodes from the sixth season appearing on Paramount+ following their CBS premiere, the first five seasons shifted to Netflix thanks to Warner Bros. decision to license some of their popular shows and movies. This strategic move to license its prized assets to other platforms has paid dividends, particularly evident in the latest Nielsen Top 10 streaming shows list for the week of January 18 – 24, 2023.

The Nielsen Top 10 for that week showcased Netflix’s continued dominance in the streaming charts, with the rest of the list including The Crown, Leave The World Behind, and Rebel Moon: Part 1 rounding out the top five.

Adding to the excitement for Young Sheldon fans, Netflix is set to release the sixth season of the series imminently, which will no doubt see another wave of interest in the show. Whether this can enable it to hold off Reacher, and other challengers, in the coming weeks is something that we will soon find out.

The Big Bang Theory Spin-Offs Will Continue on CBS

CBS has announced that Young Sheldon will return for a final run with season 7, marking the conclusion of the series. Scheduled to premiere on February 15th, this final season promises to deliver a fitting end to the series, leaving fans eager to see how Sheldon’s youthful journey will wrap up. Although the new season will first arrive on CBS, then Paramount+, it is likely that a shift to Netflix will happen sometime in the coming years.

Although there have been questions asked over a possible revival of Young Sheldon’s predecessor, so far there has been little sign of The Big Bang Theory getting a revival. However, CBS are said to be coming close to ordering another spin-off series that will focus on Sheldon Cooper’s older brother Georgie and his bride-to-be Mandy. The spin-off will be a direct sequel to Young Sheldon, and will therefore keep The Big Bang Theory torch burning, and no doubt deliver another hit in the comedy series’ history.

Seasons 1-5 of Young Sheldon can be streamed on Max and Netflix. Season 6 comes to Netflix in February.
