Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride Address Their Walking Dead Future: ‘Their Journey’s Not Over’

The Walking Dead’s Daryl and Carol will be going their separate ways as the series ends, but this is not the last time the pair will be seen together.

AMC

The Walking Dead is heading into its final episodes on AMC this fall, but for Norman Reedus the journey will continue in his own spin-off show, which was originally meant to also include fellow TWD star Melissa McBride. Due to filming logistics, McBride dropped out of the production earlier this year, but ahead of The Walking Dead’s conclusion, the pair have hinted that there is still more to come from both Daryl and Carol in the future, including a reunion somewhere further down the road.

One of several Walking Dead spin-off shows coming in the next few years, Reedus will reprise his role as Daryl Dixon as he heads to France and is expected to link up with the post-credits scene of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which hinted at the origin of the zombie outbreak and a potential cure for it. Although it is clear that the show will only feature Daryl, Reedus told Entertainment Weekly:

“Their journey’s not over. They will meet down the road. You can pretty much bet all your money. I read all these people whining about it, and I have to just keep my mouth shut, but there will be a lot of foots in a lot of mouths at some point.”

During the same interview, McBride explained her feelings about where Carol is by the end of The Walking Dead and where her future lies. She said:

“Of course, I’ve always enjoyed working so closely with Norman throughout these many seasons. In playing Carol, and as a viewer of the show, I’ve also long been intrigued with ‘Daryl and Carol,’ and by what so early on between them, even then, felt somehow bound. Their shared history is long, and each’s own personal fight to survive, even longer — the more obvious aspect of what has kept them close and loyal. But there is also a rather mysterious aspect to their fondness for one another that I enjoy, and their playfulness when the world permits. I’m very curious! [Showrunner Angela Kang] has a way of shaking things up in great and unexpected ways. She’s like a kid playing with the dimmer switch! I’m very excited!”

The Walking Dead’s Most Recent Spin-Off Announcement Centers on Rick Grimes’ Return

AMC

For several years now, fans of The Walking Dead have been eagerly awaiting news on when the almost mythical Rick Grimes movies will be arriving. At San Diego Comic-Con, the answer finally came in a way no one anticipated – the announcement that the Rick Grimes movies were being replaced by a new spin-off limited series that would focus on Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and Danai Gurira’s Michonne.

The announcement of this new spin-off means that almost every fan-favorite character from the flagship show is now getting their own spin-off series, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan also branching out in their roles as Negan and Maggie in the newly named The Walking Dead: Dead City, formerly known as Isle of the Dead. With most of these new spin-offs filming this year, it is likely that despite The Walking Dead coming to an end in a matter of weeks, there will be much more to come from the Walking Dead universe next year and beyond.
