The Simpsons Spoofs Bridgerton in Season Finale Clip

The Simpsons fast approaches its finale for season 33, and a new clip provides a sneak peek at what’s to come. The episode, subbed “Poorhouse Rock,” includes a subplot of the women of Springfield getting obsessed with Tunnelton, the show’s version of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton. The clip, which was debuted by TVLine, can now be watched below.

“The Springfield ladies had a marvelous time journeying back to an era when England was filled with eligible young ladies in corsets courted by hot multi-racial dudes with rock-hard abs,” a narrator explains as Tunnelton plays on the television.

“The writing on this show is amazing,” Marge quips. “Men can have muscles on their chest now?”

Of course, the other members of the family will have their own happenings while Marge is caught up in the Tunnelton fever along with the other ladies in the town of Sprinfgield. In the episode, the main plot follows Bart when he humiliates Homer at Church, causing Homer to finally teach his son “to admire his dad — until a visit from a magical, singing janitor changes everything they thought they knew.” Special guest Hugh Jackman provides the voice of the janitor and Robert Reich will voice himself for a special appearance.

The Simpsons Are Sticking Around

FOX

Season 34 came as part of a 2-season renewal as The Simpsons continues to make history as one of television’s longest-running shows. The series has been on the air for more than three decades after originally premiering in 1989, though the characters first existed in animated shorts that played on The Tracey Ullman Show. The show’s team still has no intentions of stopping anytime soon, and given the continued popularity of the series, it appears that the animated family will be around for some time to come.

“It’s a sincere pleasure to announce the Season 33 and 34 pick-ups for The Simpsons. We keep hoping that, eventually, they’ll get it right,” Charlie Collier, Fox Entertainment CEO, said in a statement at the time of the renewal. “Profound respect for and congratulations to Matt, Jim, Al and the many other wonderful partners working really hard to finally elevate The Tracey Ullman Show. As they say, ‘practice makes perfect.’”

Dana Walden, Chairman of Entertainment, Walt Disney Television, added: “Original, brilliant, outrageously funny, prophetic…there aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe this genius comedy which continues to entertain viewers of all ages. Jim Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean lead a team of all-stars who hold such a high bar for themselves and leap over it with each spectacular episode. On behalf of everyone at our studio and the millions of fans of The Simpsons around the world, I want to thank our wonderful partners at Fox for making this a truly great day.”

The season 34 finale of The Simpsons will premiere on May 22, 2022, on Fox. For more, fans can watch every episode from all prior seasons streaming on Disney+.
