The social media mogul with reported connections to TimmyBandsome has put BossMan Dlow on the receiving end of much backlash after the rapper’s entrapment-ridden reaction to the widespread rumor about him attempting to hook up with the social media personality. The controversy erupted after SAY CHEESE! 👄🧀 posted a quotation attributed to Dlow: “Just keep sh!t street when you decide you wanna play with a real street n!gga.” Almost instantly, the vague but angry response went viral, and people were speculating about every possible meaning behind those words.

Meaningless clues accompanied the social media post, all bent toward the implication: the rumor was that Dlow was sliding into TimmyBandSome’s DMs, and he didn’t like it very much. His response wasn’t a flat-out denial but contained an almost indirect threat, thus strengthening the suspicion even more. The whole lot of social media laughed him off, some even pointing out how ironic that was: “His name is Dlow … we been knew.” Someone jokingly referenced the slang term “DL” (down low), which is almost always used to describe men who secretly engage in same-sex relationships.

But that was the worst. Many other people spoke about how dangerous that implication really was. “This is how most trans women/femme-presenting gay men are killed-by straight men who are attracted to them but can’t handle the truth,” said another person while one more added, “The Black community will never be free from homophobia. If we just let people be who they are, DL culture wouldn’t exist.” Then the conversation proceeded to toxic masculinity and how Black men must deal with navigating the discourse on sexuality from the standpoint of his realness.
Dlow supporters joined in the fray, insisting that the rumors were simply for clout. “Y’all believe anything posted on this app,” claimed one, while another offered a lighter reaction: “Can’t blame him, TimmyBandsome is a bad bitch.” And neither of them could deny how hostile Dlow’s statement had been. “He’d be more gangster if he just owned his shit,” a commenter said, referring to the hypocritical attempt at gangsterism of being tough while side-stepping directly confronting the allegations.
The whole freak show kept getting more and more interesting as social media started pulling in names of other celebrities who had faced almost similar situations. “GloRilla really said that on the remix-he might’ve wrote her verse,” one said, referring to the rapper’s own viral moment wherein she addressed the rumors about her sexuality. The comparisons only stoked the damn fire even further, clearly giving context that this was not just about Dlow but about the bigger blueprint of how public figures react when their private lives have been thrown into questions.
Meanwhile, within the raving debates, some made comments on the sheer absurdity of the whole situation. “These men swear coming out the closet is social suicide,” one user said, followed by another sarcastic comment: “Real street nigga = likes bworls.” Reacting through memes and jokes were just a few of the ways in which the agenda of the discussion came through: accountability, masculinity, and the effect of denial.

Dlow has yet to make an additional statement to clarify his pronouncement or to directly address the rumors. One thing is for sure though: more harm than good was caused by that statement. He did not shut the speculation down-even further induced curiosity. Whether Dlow wants to admit that or not, it’s never going to be laid to rest anytime soon. And if history means anything, the more he tries to shrink away from it, the crazier the people for it will become.
