The View Sends Mother’s Day Love And Sparks Mixed Reactions

The View went on Twitter to greet everyone a Happy Mother’s Day; some posts, though, were far from gooey-good. While the daytime talk show tweeted a lovely message celebrating mother-people, the replies ranged from somewhat emotional to totally appalling.

Let’s take this tweet, looking as festive as can be: Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers from all of us here at #TheView. Simple enough, isn’t it? Nope. The internet being what it is, people had Thoughts.

Some stayed cute, such as Esther’s: “happy mother’s day ladies.” Basic and polite; what you expect. Robert Ortiz also stayed in safe grounds and said, “Happy Mother Day to all the ladies.” Not grammatically perfect but the thought was there.

And then things took a very ugly turn. orsinimax66 replied, “Shove it! Don’t you mean happy Mother’s Day for all the Democrats, which there aren’t many anymore.” Yikes. Nothing like turning a nice holiday wish into a political rant.

Then the real drama began down in the reply chain. Apparently, Gina Beana Fofina (username checks out) said something spicy in response to robert ortiz: “You should have been an abortion.” Harsh. DanaRise tries to patch things up, “Get over yourself my friend and have a nice day.” Too little, too late, maybe.

Positivity followed from DanaRise, “Hugs and spirit to all of you,” and a flower emoji. She tried her best to restore some balance within the chaos.

The show is no stranger to controversies, but you would think a simple Mother’s Day shout-out would be off-limits. Not at all. These days, even the sturdiest of good wishes are at the mercy of the dark side of the web.

To wit, that original message of theirs was heartfelt and sincere. The View just happens to be a group that truly appreciate motherhood, with the hosts, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, often chatting about their own experiences of upbringing. This year in 2024 though? Even a Mother’s Day shout-out will never be safe from trolling.

These opposites elucidate how much disposition there is in society, even over a subject as universal as tribute to the mothers. Somewhere there was an acknowledgment of the tweet for what it was, but others took it as a political statement. This is social media for you – where nothing is just nice anymore.

A rare instance of The View actually being sincere, and a not-so-rare case of the astounding responses. This is how you play when you hop into the Twitter trenches even over something as innocent as a Mother’s Day shoutout.

So what’s the moral of this big mess? Maybe you should just call your mom instead of fighting with random strangers online. She’ll love that way more than a hundred tweets any day.
